Vulcans aim to take next step

Gary Dunn is always focused on the present. He never chooses to discuss future games and very rarely dwells on the past.
That’s part of the reason why he’s had so much success as head football coach at California University, compiling a 27-8 record in three seasons at the helm.
But a 2018 season in which Cal U went 7-4 overall and failed to receive a berth in the NCAA playoffs certainly didn’t sit well with Dunn and company.
“I think our guys know that the expectations are high. A lot of programs out there would love to be 7-4, but it left a bad taste in our mouths,” Dunn said. “I think our kids understand the work we need to put in to improve on that and I think our kids are more mature this year. I don’t know that we were a mature team last year, but I think all the lessons we learned from that 7-4 season, we’ve grown from.”
