Monessen addresses police shortage

“What the mayor did by sharing Lt. (Dave) Yuhasz’s letter about the concerns of the police department on Facebook was amplify tension in the city and jeopardize any negotiations between the department and council.”

Those are Monessen Solicitor Joseph Dalfonso’s sentiments about Mayor Matt Shorraw’s decision to share an Aug. 2 email from Yuhasz, the union steward for the Monessen Police Department, on his personal Facebook page.

The email contained complaints of Monessen police officers, who are concerned that there are not enough officers employed in the city and that currently employed officers are being asked to work “too many hours.”

The post has been shared several times on Monessen-themed community Facebook pages and has generated a lot of chatter on the social media platform.
