Big’s to remain garbage hauler in Charleroi

Big’s Sanitation will continue to handle garbage collection for residential and commercial properties — at least until Aug. 7, 2020.

The borough switched haulers in 2017 and awarded a three-year contract to Big’s, charging $122.88 a year for residential properties.

Earlier this month, council voted to once again to appoint Big’s for the job, but not without a lengthy discussion surrounding complaints about the company’s service and communication.

Big’s was the lowest bidder for the contract, charging the same rate as in past years. Westmoreland Sanitary Landfill submitted a bid to charge $133 in the first year, $135 in an optional second year and $137 in the optional third year.
