The Washington County Coroner’s Office is asking for the public’s help to identify a female who was struck and killed by a train in Charleroi Tuesday night.
Police, fire and EMS officials were called to the area of Seventh Street and Railroad Way for a report a person was struck by a train around 10 p.m. The operator of a train radio car reported an unconscious person to Washington County 911.
The Charleroi Volunteer Fire Department rescue squad, Charleroi Regional Police and Mon Valley Emergency Medical Services responded immediately and found a female unconscious at the scene.
Warco said in a release Wednesday the woman was attempting to cross the train tracks on foot when she was struck by a Norfolk-Southern rail car traveling north.
The victim died at the scene, despite attempts to resuscitate her.
She was officially pronounced dead by the coroner around 11:15 p.m.
As of presstime, the woman had not been identified and a cause and manner of death have not been released.
Norfolk Southern Railroad Police Department is handling the investigation. They have not released any information regarding the accident.
