88,425.
The World’s Largest Wedding Cookie Table — a Guinness World Record set Sunday in Monongahela — contained 88,425 cookies.
Organizers knew they had a record total at Sunday’s event, but the official number wasn’t unveiled until Thursday in a ceremony at the Monongahela Area Historical Society.
Around 400 bakers made hundreds of lady locks, pizelles, sugar cookies, snickerdoodles, oatmeal raisins, Oreo truffles, chocolate chip cookies, peaches, buckeyes, cranberry tarts, biscotti, black raspberry thumbprints, peanut butter blossoms, angelettis (Italian orange juice cookies) and many other varieties that filled dozens of tables at Monongahela’s Chess Park as part of the city’s 250th anniversary celebration.
“What everyone needs to remember about this is, the number is important and that’s what we’re waiting for, but what is really important is that we’re a little town,” said Laura Magone, president of the Monongahela Area Historical Society. “A very proud town with ethnic roots and blue collar traditions. We are keeping ethnic traditions alive through baking.”
