For the next six weekends starting Saturday through Sept. 22, plus Labor Day, a field in West Newton will become a magical kingdom where knights joust, peasants sling tomatoes and insults and fairies enthrall children. It is the Pittsburgh Renaissance Festival.
Each weekend features a different theme, with Aug. 17-18 marking the opening of “An Adventure to the Past” as the festival welcomes King Henry and Queen Anne back to the castle. With many visitors dressed in costume, it can be difficult at times to tell the spectators from the spectacle.

Online tickets for the 2019 season are adults: $21.50 ($23 at the gate); children ages 5-12: $10 ($11 at the gate.) Children younger than 5 are admitted free.
