A Smithton man is lodged in Westmoreland County Correctional Facility after allegedly choking the mother of his child Saturday.

Charles Szabo Jr., 41, of Boy Scout Road is charged with strangulation, simple assault, harassment, driving with a suspended license, driving without insurance and other vehicle citations. He is being held in lieu of $100,000 bond.

According to state police, Trooper Andrew Prizzi was on patrol near Skyline Drive in Smithton just before noon Saturday when he was dispatched to a domestic situation on Second Street.

As Prizzi was receiving that call, Szabo allegedly pulled up beside the police car on a motorcycle.
