This season will be Belle Vernon Area boys soccer coach Rob Miele’s third on the sidelines at his alma mater. But this year, he doesn’t have the certainty in deciding his lineup like he did in his first two seasons.

The Leopards are a much younger team featuring 11 freshmen and 10 sophomores.

“We only have two seniors. There’s a lot of young guys, so we’re focusing on more foundation skills,” Miele said. “We don’t have the luxury like we did last year where everyone knows our expectations and standards. But those 11 freshmen have been really good and are really pushing the upperclassmen. It’s really created a competitive environment in practice.”

Of the 10 positions on the field, five of them are locked up.
