‘Help Kids Beat Cancer’ fundraiser set in Monessen

Monessen native Nikki Williams was attracted to Penn State as a college student because of the university’s THON, an annual fundraiser that helps families dealing with pediatric cancer.

Five years after graduation, she’s running a similar charitable event of her own. The second annual Help Kids Beat Cancer! fundraiser will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 14 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Monessen.

“THON is passionate, charitable, fun, accomplished,” Williams said. “It’s not one particular thing. It’s so much bigger than what you see and who you are. You want to make it so that no family ever has to hear the words, ‘Your child has cancer’ ever again. Nobody should ever have to go through that, let alone a 10-month-old or a 3-year-old.”

Help Kids Beat Cancer! will include a gift auction, bake sale, lottery tree giveaway and games for children.
