Night Out unites communities

Two McKeesport neighborhoods and the borough of Port Vue on Tuesday brought residents, public officials and police officers together to encourage community spirit for National Night Out.

Established by the National Association of Town Watch, National Night Out was initially created to promote “police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live,” according to the organization’s mission statement.

The celebration is held in hundreds of cities across America on the first Tuesday of each August. Many local municipalities use NNO as a community day-type celebration.

In McKeesport, this year’s celebration was held at McKeesport Alliance Church in the Fawcett Plan and at CCR Gardens on Marshall Drive in the Haler Heights neighborhood.
