Cooper Wingert is a prolific author, churning out more than 10 books by age 21.
“I started doing primary source research because I was just interested, and I started really enjoying looking through letters and diaries from soldiers and people 150 years ago,” he said. “Our job as historians is basically reading dead people’s mail.”
He will speak about Pennsylvania’s Underground Railroad at this month’s Civil War Roundtable at 7 p.m. Thursday at California University of Pennsylvania’s Kara Alumni House.
Wingert grew up in Enola, a small town near Harrisburg, and is a student at Dickinson College, where he’s pursuing a bachelor’s degree in history. He plans to complete a master’s degree in the subject, continuing his education alongside his writing.
