Local powerlifters impress at national championships

Five members of the Thunderbird Powerlifting team placed first at the WNPF Drug Free National Powerlifting Championships in Youngstown, Ohio on July 28. 

Joey Lipscomb was named Ironman best lifter after breaking his own national deadlift record and recording the highest deadlift of the day. Lipscomb benched 325 pounds and deadlifted 535 pounds for a national record total of 860 pounds in the Junior Division.  

Lyndsi Benning set three national records in the Women’s Junior Division with a bench press of 115 pounds and a deadlift of 255 pounds for a 370 pound total. 

Issac Tabron placed first in the age 17-19, 198-pound division with lifts of a 285-pound squat, 230-pound bench and an impressive 460-pound deadlift for a 975-pound total.
