Randy Marino got involved with PuppyUp when he lost his own pup to cancer at just 4 1/2 years old. Now, he’s working alongside other passionate volunteers in the Mon Valley to inform dog owners of the warning signs of cancer — by organizing the annual Sept. 7 PuppyUp Monessen Walk.
“PuppyUp funds cancer research in dogs,” said Marino, who is the director of the Monessen walk. “I felt that when I had to put my own dog to rest, I wanted to try to spare someone else the misery.”
PuppyUp is a national organization that is ardent about making dog owners aware of alarms and indications of cancer development, and do so by raising money through walks and dog shows throughout their localized chapters.
This year marks the third year for the Monessen PuppyUp Walk, and volunteers are hopeful for an even more impressive turnout and fundraising effort than last year’s.
