Installing a parking lot might seem like a routine, mundane thing, but the Carnegie Free Library of McKeesport is having a ribbon cutting for a new one, and Director Colleen Denne says it is something that is going to change the library experience for visitors.
The 117-year-old library has never had a parking lot, and Denne said patrons have desperately wanted one for decades.
The library’s board, staff and volunteers have been holding fundraising campaigns and submitting grant applications for years to foot the bill for a parking lot, but weren’t able to break ground until April of last year.
Denne said she and her colleagues are excited for the lot’s opening, so, she is inviting the whole community to come celebrate it. The library’s staff and board will be joined by McKeesport Mayor Michael Cherepko and state Sen. Jim Brewster, D-McKeesport, at 11 a.m. Aug. 1 for the ribbon cutting and reception.
