After years of neglect — and despite hope for revitalization — the Coyle Theater in Charleroi will be demolished.
The Mon Valley Alliance, owner of the blighted building on McKean Avenue, announced Thursday that a contract has been signed to tear down the theater and prepare the site for new development.
According to CEO Ben Brown, the organization signed a demolition contract for an undisclosed amount to allow Schaaf Excavating to move forward with demolition, which should begin with environmental remediation in the next few weeks.
The cost is being covered by the MVA’s internal funds without any contribution from taxpayers.
