Waterfront project moves forward

Spirits were high at Tuesday’s meeting of Elizabeth borough council, as Vice President Chad Rager’s motion to move forward into phase six of the waterfront revitalization project received unanimous support.
“We’re trying to tie the community into that riverfront,” said Rager, who is also the fire chief. “It’s a big asset. We have people coming in and fishing down there from Carrick and Pittsburgh. We’ve got almost $400,000 total going in down there.”
Rager has been working toward completion of the project for approximately five years, and has seen it through its first five phases — when grant money was used to revitalize Second Avenue and Plum Street. The sixth phase will stretch from Plum Street to Walnut Street, eventually connecting the sidewalks directly to the riverfront.
“It’s connecting everything into the town,” Rager said. “You’ll be able to walk right down the sidewalk to the river.”
