Helen Mae Weyer – White Oak

Helen Mae Weyer, 86, of White Oak, died July 19, 2019, at her home. Born Dec. 21, 1939, in McKeesport, she was the daughter of the late Raymond and Anna Mae Coulter Holden and the wife of James Weyer. A proud member of McKeesport Area High School’s Class of 1950, Helen worked throughout her life and retired as operation manager for Zayre-Ames Department Store in McKeesport. She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in White Oak, Order of the Eastern Star, Elizabeth Chapter No. 418, Zayre Retirees, Christy Park Senior Citizens, Senior Citizens Club of Elizabeth Township, McKeesport LifeSpan and former president of Young Women’s Club of McKeesport. She was a leader of the Girl Scouts, Brownies and Cub Scouts of White Oak. She helped organize the first special education girl scout troop in Allegheny County and was a recipient of The Thanks Badge from Allegheny Girl Scouts of America. She was a leader of Exceptional Children of McKeesport and instrumental in the creation of  MYARC. Helen loved to travel. She enjoyed impromptu camping trips to Slippery Rock Campground as well as cross-country travel, from the Grand Canyon to Disneyland. Survivors include children, Debbie (James) Baird and Kevin (Bobbi) Weyer; grandchildren, Adam (Theresa) Weyer, Ashley (Javiera) Alverez, Jessica (Erik) Bibb and Joanna (Tewfik Hamidi) Baird; great-grandchildren, Riley, Sophia, Gabby and Brayden; siblings, Eleanor (Nick) Coban and Mary Holden, both of McKeesport; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by brothers Charles, Robert, Ray and Frank Holden. Family and friends will be received at WILLIG FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 25. A funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Friday in the funeral home chapel. The Rev. Erin Evans will officiate. Entombment will follow at Restland Memorial Park Mausoleum.
