Disgruntled business owners and Rostraver Township representatives will finally see progress made on the years-long sinkhole and flooding problem located off Route 51 between T W Scott Enterprises, BFS/Sunoco and Farnham and Pfile.
BFS Corporate plans to start work today on its side of the property up to the Farnham and Pfile property line. BFS leases the land from Donald Yoder, and according to the leasing agreement, Yoder does not have legal obligations for the property’s upkeep, making the management of the sinkhole the responsibility of the gas station.
PennDOT also has plans to intervene this week and has put forward a proposal for a Pennsylvania One Call — an emergency system created to protect underground facilities before anyone begins to disturb the earth. One Call receives requests to find out where any underground lines are located, township Chairman Devin DeRienzo said.
“Before they dig, they have to do that call,” he said. “They call into a company before they dig and that company reaches out to all the municipalities, and they have to come out and mark any lines that they might have in the area.”
