Belle Vernon Dairy Queen kept its playoff hopes alive with a slim 33-30 victory over Lee Supply in J. Budd Grebb Memorial Summer Basketball League girls action Monday night at California Middle School.

BVDQ (3-6) was in need of a win of more than two points considering Lee Supply (3-6) won the previous meeting between the teams, 18-16, on July 10.

In order to make the playoffs, BVDQ now needs to defeat Cedarbrook on Wednesday. If they lose, they will need Lee Supply to lose to Edward Jones.

“We knew we were mathematically still in the race and they beat us by two earlier this year,” BVDQ head coach Melanie Greco said. “I didn’t share with the girls until halftime that we needed to win by two to stay alive. It’s a longshot, but we’re still alive and I think that made them happy. They came out at halftime and played pretty well.”
