Despite a slow start, Dax Thomas State Farm was able to set up a Wednesday evening showdown with AMD Industries for first place in the J. Budd Grebb Memorial Girls Summer Basketball League after handily defeating Edward Jones, 42-18, Monday night at California Middle School.

State Farm was led by Emma Seto’s 17 points. Seto, a Brownsville product, has been productive the entire year for Tom Rodriguez’s squad.

“We have a nice mix and she can handle the ball. She’s fundamentally sound, she’s given us a huge boost, and it’s not because she’s scoring a ton,” Rodriguez said. “She’s doing everything else and she’s just all over the place. She’s been a great addition for us.”

It looked as if State Farm (7-2) would be put to the test early as Edward Jones (0-9) battled and scrapped to trade buckets with them. Edward Jones even took the lead at 8-6 after Frazier’s Sierra Twigg scored on back-to-back possessions to finish out the first quarter.
