Valley great Rechichar dead at 89

One of the greatest football players in Mid-Mon Valley history has died.
Albert Daniel “Bert” Rechichar, who was a defensive back with several teams in the NFL, including the Pittsburgh Steelers, and once held the record for the NFL’s longest field goal, died Saturday.
He was 89.
He was born in Belle Vernon on July 10, 1930.
Rechichar was a standout athlete at Rostraver High School and went on to play college football and baseball at Tennessee. As a baseball player for the Vols, he participated in the College World Series.
