Local overdose deaths decline

Pennsylvania is making statewide progress in fighting the opioid epidemic – particularly in the Mon Valley.
During the Allegheny County Overdose Prevention Coalition’s summer conference Thursday, Pennsylvania Opioid Command Center Incident Commander Ray Barishansky highlighted progress in the last year.
The Opioid Command Center was established in January 2018 when Gov. Wolf issued the first opioid disaster declaration.
It’s staffed by personnel from 17 state agencies and spearheaded by the departments of Health and Drug and Alcohol Programs. It meets each week to discuss the opioid crisis from the standpoint of prevention, rescue and treatment.
