Upgrades approved for Ringgold baseball field

The Ringgold Rams baseball team will play on a much-improved surface in 2020.
On Wednesday night, the Ringgold School Board accepted a $591,650 bid from Plavchak Construction to renovate the existing field at the high school, which is often too soggy to use.
Last summer, hot off the Rams’ state championship win, Coach Don Roberts asked the board to consider improving the baseball field to give his players more opportunities for outdoor practices.
The poor condition of the field forces the team to practice indoors almost exclusively, Roberts said, adding that the Rams were unable to host many conference games and had to play on the road the majority of the time.
The field also prevented his team from competing in more non-section games that could have given them more experience.
