McKeesport’s mayor and police chief said they are elated that “the switch was flipped” Tuesday to activate a brand new traffic and pedestrian signal at the intersection of two busy state-maintained roads.
Motorists who frequently travel along state Route 148 in Mc-Keesport near the city’s border with Versailles may have noticed that a new traffic light went up at the road’s intersection with Route 48 (Long Run Road) in late April. But the lights on the poles have been covered with burlap bags ever since.
Most of the lights at the intersection are now active.
The poles, signals and a turning lane, which are located near Wilson Baum Agency Inc. and the new Walnut Crossing development, were put in by Carnegie-based Power Contracting Co. under the direction of Trans Associates Engineering Consultants Inc.
