Ice-covered road in July

McKeesport firefighters from Crew No. 2 found the off-ramp of the Mansfield Bridge covered in ice Tuesday morning, but it wasn’t because of strange weather patterns.

A refrigerated box truck carrying a large load of bagged ice flipped over onto its side. It was delivering 7- and 22-pound bags of ice for Bethel Park-based Home City Ice.

While some of the ice melted under the hot sun, McKeesport police had to close the off-ramp and the connector street that allows motorists traveling from Glassport to McKeesport’s 10th Ward and downtown for a short time.

McKeesport Based C&D Towing and Recovery was called to upright the truck and tow it away. Firefighters had to cut the roof off the back of the truck so that the remainder of the ice that was still inside could be removed because the truck was too heavy to be flipped while still bearing the load.
