Bove hired to guide BVA wrestling

Regardless of what happened after the resignation of Mike Doppelheuer as head wrestling coach at Belle Vernon Area, Bob Bove knew he was going to be involved with the program in some capacity.

He didn’t quite expect to be the next head coach, though.

But with a unanimous vote Tuesday, the BVA School Board hired Bove as the next head coach.

“I was planning to stay on staff, plus my boys are involved in the youth program,” Bove said. “But when it came down to it, I didn’t want the hire just to be anyone because they were someone. So, I talked to (Athletic Director) Matt (Humbert) and told him I’d be interested in the job if they were still accepting applicants.”

A former head coach at Ringgold, twice, and McGuffey, Bove brings plenty of experience to the position. He wrestled for two years at the University of Pittsburgh before finishing his collegiate career at Cal U. His experience and background was something that couldn’t be overlooked by Humbert.
