The Center for Media Innovation at Point Park University has created a new program aimed at educating Mon Valley residents about the basics of news reporting.

Point Park will host the “Independent Reporting Workshop” at its McKeesport Community Newsroom from 6 to 8 p.m. July 22.

Earlier this year, the university announced that Pulitzer Prize-winning photographer Martha Rial, a Pittsburgh native, will lead the McKeesport Community Newsroom initiative.

The Newsroom, which is located on the second floor of the Tube City Center in McKeesport, supports citizen journalism and storytelling by residents of the Mon Valley’s largest city and the surrounding area, Rial said.
