BV Legion eliminated from playoffs

For the second time in less than 24 hours, Belle Vernon Legion allowed just one run in Fayette County American Legion Baseball League playoff action.

However, a day after picking up a one-run win, the outcome was reversed as BV suffered a 1-0 loss to Connellsville, eliminating the Leopards from the playoffs in semifinal action Sunday afternoon at Connellsville Area High School.

Despite another stellar performance from JJ Hartman on the mound, Belle Vernon was unable to muster any runs to aid Hartman in his outing. Hartman was able to toss six innings, allowing one run on four hits while setting down six Connellsville batters on strikes.

“JJ did awesome. He had two weeks off and came out throwing harder than he normally does,” BV assistant coach Jake Hartman said. “He kept them off balance and his curveball was working really well.”
