A case involving a man accused of attempted homicide has been sealed by a Washington County judge.
On Wednesday, Charleroi Regional Police arrested 39-year-old John Sadvary, who is charged with criminal attempt homicide, conspiracy, aggravated assault and simple assault.
Shortly after the arrest, Washington County Common Pleas Judge John DiSalle sealed all records in the case, including Sadvary’s docket, which would include the date of his preliminary hearing and his representation.
Sealing that public information is unconstitutional, according to the Pennsylvania NewsMedia Association.
Melissa Melewsky, media law council for PNA, said courts are able to seal criminal complaints and supporting documents for up to 30 days with good cause, which has to be cited in the court order to seal the records.
