Riverfest tradition continues in Elizabeth

When the Elizabeth Volunteer Fire Department took over the planning for the annual Riverfest event about 10 years ago, they decided to make it bigger and better than ever.
The celebration stretches across two days and incorporates family fun as well as perks for adult participants. Elizabeth Fire Chief Chad Rager and his team of firefighters make up a volunteer army of about 50 hard-working men and women who make this yearly event possible.
“We try to bring in the community, the churches, everybody pretty much plays a part,” Rager said. “That’s what it takes.”
This year’s celebration, set for July 26-27, will mark the 135th year of service for the Elizabeth Borough VFC. The department will host a large parade on the final night of the celebration, beginning at the Elizabeth Borough VFC on Market Street from 5-11 p.m.
