Thomas Orange Ducoeur – Charleroi

By obits

Thomas Orange Ducoeur, beloved father and husband passed away June 30, 2019, at age 79, at the Residence at Hilltop. Tom was born on July 27, 1939, in Pittsburgh, the son of the late F.C. “Duke” and Lois Orange Ducoeur. Tom married the love of his life, Cora Sue Adams of Waynesburg, in 1962. He met Cora at the Green County Fair in the dairy stables. They both had a favorite cow which started a lifelong debate of whether the Jersey or Guernsey was the better cow. Tom was born and lived in Charleroi. He had a varied career path as a farmer, ice cream man, mail man and business owner. Having great pride in his hometown, he could often be found setting up, attending or breaking down the many festivals and he was easy to spot with his shaved head and the large set of keys that dangled from his belt. The slogan “Follow me to Charleroi” was displayed on his furniture delivery truck. He was very active with the chamber of commerce and the promotions committee. Tom was an entrepreneur having owned and operated Ducoeur Furniture, Ducoeur Shoes, Ducoeur Indoor Storage, Oranges Department Store and Especially for You beauty shop. He also managed and maintained several buildings in Charleroi. Quite the handyman, he liked working with his hands, preferring to do most maintenance and remodeling himself. He will be remembered as a hard worker, but also a strong family man. His wife, his daughters and then his tools was his order of significance. After a hard day’s work he looked forward to family dinners. Tom is survived by his daughters, Lois (Don) Ruschak and Rebecca Bowers; grandchildren Coral, Pearl, Noah and Jonah Ruschak, Jacquelyn and Dalton Bowers. Tom is also survived by his sister, Carolyn Sue (Alan) Christie and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by his wife, Cora Sue Ducoeur; brothers, William Ducoeur of Charleroi, and Fred Ducoeur of Texas. In lieu of flowers, Tom wishes for donations to the Mon Valley Hospital Lois Orange Ducoeur Breast Cancer Walk or Wounded Warrior project. There will be no visitation.  A wake for family and friends will be held from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, July 27, 2019, (Toms 80th birthday) at the River House Restaurant in Charleroi. Arrangements were entrusted to the SCHROCK-HOGAN FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES INC. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.schrock-hogan.com.
