There’s a new assistant police chief in McKeesport, and he says he’s eager to do his part “to make the city a better place.”
Mayor Michael Cherepko announced at Tuesday’s council meeting that the personnel committee has decided to give the position to Chris Olinsky, who is more commonly known around town as “Chip,” a nickname his grandfather gave him when he was a baby.
A lifelong McKeesport resident, Olinsky has been on the city’s police force for nearly 24 years. Over the past few years, he has been serving as the department’s police lieutenant in charge of the traffic division.
Olinsky, who will officially be sworn in this week, graduated from McKeesport Area High School and at age 19 joined current Chief Adam Alfer to take part in the city’s now defunct police cadet program.
