Breakthrough Player of the Year: BVA benefitted from Sokol’s production

Despite never having played baseball at the varsity level, Andrew Sokol had plenty of believers on his side entering his freshman season this past spring.
Members of the coaching staff at Belle Vernon Area were aware of the type of player he was and knew he had the ability to make an immediate impact.
“The kid works as hard as anybody and we’re not afraid to give a freshman a shot if he has the tools,” said BVA head coach Tony Watson, who was hired to take over the program last week after spending the past six seasons as the team’s pitching coach.
“He’s just a good, all-around kid. He’s good at the plate, he’s good on the mound and he can just do it all.”
