The Allegheny County Board of Health has formed a search committee to start the process of hiring a new director.

Co-chaired by Board of Health member Dr. Edith Shapira and Heinz Endowments President Grant Oliphant, the nine-member committee will work with Krauthamer & Associates, Inc., a national executive search firm, to identify appropriate candidates.

Dr. Karen Hacker announced last month that she will leave her position as head of ACHD for a leadership role with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta.

Hacker, 63, will become the director of the CDC’s National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion. Her last day with ACHD will be July 31.
