The McKeesport Fire Department revealed Tuesday that $22,000 was raised during this year’s Tips for Kids event.
Each May, the department partners with the city’s police department and teachers from McKeesport Area School District and Mary of Nazareth School in White Oak to hold a fundraiser at Clancy’s Pub in Dravosburg. Through it, they raise money for the McKeesport Coats for Kids program as well as the McKeesport Safety Initiative.
During the event, firefighters, teachers and police officers form teams and tend bar. All the tips they make, along with money collected during raffles and 50/50s, are applied toward Coats for Kids and the safety initiative.
Through the Coats for Kids program, the fire department hands out free winter jackets to every student at Twin Rivers Elementary School and to students in kindergarten and pre-K at Francis McClure Elementary School.
