John Cheroki – Carroll Township

John Cheroki, 85, of Carroll Township, went home to be with his personal Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on June 13, 2019. He was born in Monessen to the late Giavoni “John” Coarrocchi and Graziosa “Grace” Sscani Cheroki. John served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean conflict. John worked at Pittsburgh Steel — Monessen Plant and was a union president. He had also been the owner of Mabel’s Place on Main Street in Lower Belle Vernon. He had been a cast member in the production of “Showboat.” John was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Monessen as well as the Monessen VFW. Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife, Shirley Cheroki; daughters, Connie Jay, Pam Carlson, Terri Halinka and Grace Baker; sister, Mary Swatner; sister-in-law, Dolores Cheroki; sons-in-law, Jeff Baker and Bob Halinka; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his beloved parents, he was preceded in death by his son, TJ Cheroki; brother, Rudy Cheroki; grandson, Craig Carlson Jr.; and his in-laws, Albert and Mabel Weston Magnone. Friends will be welcomed from 1 to 3 and 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Rhome Funeral Home Inc., 1209 Grand Blvd., Monessen. Funeral services will be held at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Monessen at 11 a.m. Monday with Pastor Matthew Stabe officiating. Interment will follow at Grandview Cemetery in Monessen.
