Commodores win state title

Every championship has its own unique story, but there are still key components to most.
No matter what the story is about, there’s always a hero or a band of them. There’s always an ending, good or bad.
The story of Frazier softball’s 2019 season had the happiest of endings Friday night and a plethora of heroes.
The Commodores rallied for a run in the top of the sixth inning and held off an all-out assault by Brandywine Heights’ top three hitters in the bottom of the seventh to claim a thrilling 6-5 win and capture the PIAA Class 2A state championship at Beard Field at Nittany Lion Softball Park.
While there were many heroic plays and players for the Commodores, Mackenzie Kelly stood the tallest.
After a rough night in right field, Kelly made a catch on Jadyn Richards’ fly ball to right and fired home to catcher Juliann Johnson in time for her to tag Haley Hertzog for the final out of the game. The play gave the Commodores their first state championship and the first team state title in school history.
