Dogs and their owners who visit McKeesport’s Renziehausen Park will soon have a new place to roam and make a few four-legged friends.

Mayor Michael Cherepko and state Sen. Jim Brewster, D-McKeesport, announced a celebration for 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday to mark the grand opening of the dog park at Renziehausen Park. An opening ceremony, complete with a “leash cutting” instead of a ribbon cutting, will be held at 10 a.m. at the park, which is across from Lake Emilie Fields (behind Sulfur Springs and Lake Emilie).

Members of the public, and their dogs, are welcome to attend.

The facility includes two separate enclosed areas for dogs to play, based on their size, and a third enclosed area that will be open during maintenance of the other two. Construction was funded by a $200,000 Community Infrastructure and Tourism Grant, which Brewster advocated for, and additional city contributions.
