John George Hela – Jefferson Township

John George Hela, 79, of Jefferson Township, Perryopolis, passed away Saturday, June 8, 2019, in Jefferson Hospital. He was born July 5, 1939, in Fayette City, son of George Hela and Elizabeth Brody Hela. He was retired from the U.S. Air Force and also retired from the Pennsylvania State prison system as a correction officer. He was a member of the NRA and American Slovanic Citizens Club of Fayette City. He is survived by two daughters, Lesley Gilmore and Belinda Basters; brother, Steve Hela and wife Georgetta, two sisters, Margaret Buchina and Betty Acklin all of Jefferson Township; three grandchildren, Chantal Basters, Larissa Basters and Jordan Ahrens; three great-grandchildren, Namira Danielle-Tchatchuing, Mason Ahrens and Mollie Ahrens. He was preceded in death by his father, George Hela; and mother, Elizabeth Brody Hela. Friends will be received 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 12, 2019, at ELEY-MCCRORY FUNERAL HOME INC. 334 Main St., Fayette City, PA. Funeral Services will be held at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 12, 2019, in the funeral home with Father Stephan Gresh officiating. Interment will follow in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Bridgeville, PA 15017.
