Avalon E. Dunkerton – Monongahela

Avalon E. Dunkerton, 98, of Monongahela, died Friday, June 14, 2019, at The Residence at Hilltop, Carroll Township. She was born Jan. 31, 1921, in Monessen, daughter of George and Rose Dietrich Shorraw. Avalon was an avid fisherman along with her late husband and enjoyed her needlework. She is survived by her sister, Norma Lee Foat of Silver Springs, Md.; her nephew and his wife, John and Wanda Pierce of Charleroi, who were also her longtime caretakers; and several nieces and nephews, great and great-great. Avalon was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Dunkerton, on Jan. 9, 2018, and had been married for 76 years at the time of his death; four brothers, George, Joseph, Earl and Richard Shorraw; and four sisters, Eleanor Levinsky, Alma Stewart, Ruth DiGiacomo and June Rose Shorraw. Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday June 17, 2019, at MELENYZER FUNERAL HOMES & CREMATION SERVICES INC., 825 Fallowfield Ave., Charleroi, where funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday June 18, 2019, with the Rev. Candace Cook presiding. Interment will follow at Mon Valley Memorial Park Carroll Township. Online condolences may be expressed at www.melenyzer.com.
