Charleroi leaves new COG, cites inaction

Charleroi council unanimously agreed Wednesday to leave the newly formed Mid Mon Valley Council of Governments.
Council passed a resolution rescinding an ordinance adopted in 2018 to join the group.
Vice President Jeannine Motycki said there has been little activity with the organization and council has decided to no longer be involved.
“We have not heard from them to my knowledge and, as of today, there has been absolutely nothing done,” she said. “Right now, it’s not a benefit to our borough.”
Council approved the resolution 5-0.
Councilman Martin Gassner was absent and Councilwoman Nancy Ellis left before voting took place.
The new COG was formed in 2017 by the Mon Valley Alliance. While it took some time to get the group up and running, the COG met informally for the first time in January. Only five municipalities — Monongahela, Donora, Charleroi, Brownsville Township and Dunlevy — were represented.
