Charleroi kicks off adopt a flag program

Charleroi Borough is kicking off Flag Day with the launch of a flag sponsorship program.
Committee Co-Chairwoman Nancy Ellis said all Mon Valley residents are encouraged to “adopt” a flag in memory of a loved one to help the borough line the streets with memorials as they prepare to host the Washington County Veterans Day Parade later this year.
The parade is scheduled for Nov. 9 but the borough thought Flag Day would be appropriate to launch the campaign.
“We thought Flag Day would be the perfect way to launch our adopt a flag program and to get residents involved,” Ellis said. “Flags can be sponsored in honor of or in memory of anyone, including family members, businesses or organizations.”
Flags can be adopted for $20 and can be paid for in cash or by check to the Borough of Charleroi.
All proceeds from the flags above costs incurred by the borough will be donated to the Charleroi Veterans Council to offset costs for the Veteran’s Day Parade and celebration in November.
