Some days of animal rescue are tougher than others, according to White Oak Animal Safe Haven founder Ina Jean Marton.
WOASH, a no-kill shelter located on Lincoln Way, is looking for immediate “emergency” donations to help pay veterinarian bills for an emaciated dog, Sweet Pea, that was rescued Sunday from a busy road in McKeesport.
The shelter is unsure exactly what breed Sweet Pea is, but she appears to be a pit bull mix. She is just under a year old.
WOASH volunteer McKenzie Denne said a “good Samaritan” rescued the dog, whose rib cage is showing. Sweet Pea was wearing a collar that had a rope attached to it instead of a leash. The shelter said Sweet Pea is under constant medical observation at the shelter.
“She came in severely emaciated,” Marton said. “She is underweight, her growth and development is stunted and she is going to need lots of medical attention to get her back to good health.”
