The Serra Catholic baseball and Elizabeth Forward softball teams will each play for a berth in the state championship game this afternoon.

And the teams that stand in their way aren’t unfamiliar.

In fact, it’s been less than two weeks since their last meetings.

Both the Eagles and the Warriors have WPIAL championship game rematches as Serra Catholic faces Seton LaSalle in the PIAA Class 2A baseball semifinals 1:30 p.m. at West Mifflin. Elizabeth Forward takes on Mt. Pleasant in the PIAA Class 4A softball semifinals 2 p.m. at Seton Hill.

Serra Catholic (22-3) split the regular season series with its section foe from Seton LaSalle (21-2) before suffering a lopsided 11-2 loss in the WPIAL Class 2A title game on May 29.

“The kids are laser focused,” Serra Catholic head coach Brian Dzurenda said. “We’ve had some great practices the last few days and we kinda feel like the last game was an outlier. We’re glad to have the opportunity and hope to give a better showing.”
