Monday was a roller coaster ride for the California baseball team.
Fresh off winning the WPIAL Class A championship a week ago, the Trojans opened up the PIAA playoffs by scoring 12 runs in the first two innings and allowing seven in the first three before cruising to a 17-7 victory over District 5 runner-up Rockwood in five innings at Greater Latrobe High School Monday.
The Trojans (19-1) used patience at the dish, aggressiveness on the basepaths and timely hitting to capture their first state playoff victory since 2015.
California drew 13 walks, stole 10 bases and had four players finish with multiple RBIs.
