Bernice “Doe Dee” Allegre, 105, of Bunola, died Saturday, June 1, 2019, in the TLC Adult Care Center, West Newton. She was born May 22, 1914, in Bunola, the daughter of James Roland and Ida Mae Penn Stewart. Bern had attended the Bunola Church of the Nazarene and the River Hill Church of Christ. At one time, she was a very active volunteer in the Bunola Volunteer Fire Department and its Ladies Auxiliary and was honored as a 100-year volunteer of the American Legion. A true sports fan of the black and gold, Bern enjoyed the Steelers, Pirates and Penguins. She was known for her homemade jelly, loved going to the casino, playing cards and bingo, fishing, flower and vegetable gardening, thrifting, frequenting yard sales and was a collector of glass baskets. Bern truly loved to babysit all of her grandchildren and great- grandchildren. Left to cherish her memory are her son, Eugene L. Allegre and wife Kathy of Bunola; daughter, Marion Watson and husband Jack of Angier, N.C.; five grandchildren, Erin Sypin Schneider, Nicole Allegre, Brad Allegre, Megan Watson and Jared Watson; four great-grandchildren, Bailey Sypin, Bentley and Layla Schneider and Margaux Carpenter.​ In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Emil Allegre, who died March 21, 1990; sister, Callie Ashton; and four brothers, Walter “Chick,” Charles, Raymond and Albert “Mike” Stewart.​ Friends will be received from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday, June 3, 2019, at FRYE FUNERAL HOME INC., 427 W. Main St., Monongahela, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 4, 2019, with Pastor Diane Hobson officiating. Interment will follow in Mon Valley Memorial Park, Donora.
