It’s fitting that the starting battery for California’s WPIAL Class A championship win over Union consisted of pitcher Nathan Zemany and catcher Jacob Swartz.
The pair makes the Trojans go and brings “the juice” for the California squad.
The only two seniors on the team, Zemany and Swartz are the only two players on the roster from when the team won its last championship, the 2A crown in 2017. They were a valuable asset, the “enforcers” for head coach Lou Pasquale heading into Tuesday’s championship game.
“It’s their team,” Pasquale said. “We might not be here without them. They take care of a lot of the discipline themselves and they’ve kept everyone together throughout this entire season. It’s a lot like a college team because of them.”
