Some of Glassport High School’s alumni are going back to school, and they intend to stay.
That’s because their old high school has been transformed into a brand new senior citizen housing complex.
To celebrate the $11.7 million facility’s grand opening, local officials and community members gathered Wednesday in the Retirement Residence of Glassport’s community room.
Located at 220 Erie St., the facility is open to seniors 62 and older with incomes of $33,600 or less per year ($38,400 for a household of two). There are 55 apartments in the building — two efficiency apartments, 49 one-bedroom apartments and four with two bedrooms. They range in size from a 450-square-foot efficiency to 870 square feet for a two bedroom.
