South Allegheny residents will see a tax increase if the district’s proposed budget passes as it stands.

School directors approved the $25.7 million spending plan, which includes a tax hike of 1.64 mills, in a 6-2 vote Wednesday.

Shawn DeVerse, Bryan Meyers, Lou Borrelli, Troy Mitchell, Amy Moranelli-Johnson and George Goebel supported the measure, with Dino DiFelice and Russell Geary opposed. Tim Wackowski was absent.

DiFelice said he supports the budget, but not the tax increase. DiFelice and Geary both said they have been board members for more than 20 years and haven’t supported a tax increase during that time.
