A potential threat to the Monongahela River has been curbed for at least 90 days.

Fayette County Court of Common Pleas Judge Steve Leskinen issued a consent order Thursday continuing today’s scheduled hearing on the alleged contamination of the river by the Westmoreland Sanitary Landfill and Belle Vernon Municipal Authority.

Fayette County District Attorney Richard Bower and Washington County District Attorney Eugene Vittone joined forces last week to prevent the municipal authority from terminating its contract with the landfill.
